Overview

for individuals The Temporary Visa for Economic Activity in Germany is a short-stay visa (less than 90 days) undertaking economic activities. This visa is applicable to employees, self-employed/freelancers, and short-term interns. Applicants must provide the appropriate supporting documents based on their category of activity.

Eligibility & Purpose:

  • For Employees: Must present an Employer’s Declaration (“Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis”) issued by the employer.
  • For Self-Employed/Freelancers: Must present a contract with a German client or employer.
  • For Short-Term Interns: Must present an internship contract with a company in Germany.
  • Intended for economic activities that do not exceed 90 days in duration.

Processing Time:

  • Typical processing time is approximately 15 calendar days.
  • Applicants should submit a complete set of documents well in advance to avoid delays.

Important Note:

  • The final decision on visa approval is made solely by the Diplomatic Mission.
  • Incomplete applications or requests for additional documentation may result in processing delays.

Documents Required

 It is strongly recommended to submit the complete set of documents listed below. All documents must be recent (not older than one month) and must be presented in their original form along with photocopies. Documents not issued in German, English, Spanish, or French must be accompanied by a certified translation into German or English.

Application Form:

  • Printed and signed visa application form (Videx short-stay online application form, including the barcode page).
  • A separate application form is required for each applicant.

Passport:

  • Valid original passport signed by the holder, issued within the last 10 years.
    • Must be valid for at least three months after the end of the trip to the Schengen area.
    • Must have at least two blank pages.

UK Residency:

  • UKVI Immigration/E-Visa and Share Code for “right to work” or “Prove your immigration status”
    • For all non-UK passport holders.

Photographs:

  • Two UK passport-sized photos, 35 x 45 mm in size, taken on a white or off-white background (no digital alterations).

Proof of Economic Activity:

  • For Employees:
    • Original, recent (within one month) and signed Employer’s Declaration (“Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis”).
  • For Self-Employed/Freelancers:
    • Original, recent (within one month) contract with a German client or employer.
  • For Short-Term Interns:
    • Original, recent (within one month) internship contract with a German company.

Proof of Funds:

  • UK bank account statements for the last three months showing a current balance of at least ÂŁ40 per day living allowance for the duration of the stay.
  • If the bank statement is over one week old, a printout of recent transaction history must be provided.
  • The statements must include the applicant’s name, address, and monthly spending limits.
  • The balance should cover the cost of travel tickets and accommodation if not prepaid.
  • Alternatively, a formal obligation letter (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) from the local immigration office in Germany may be provided.

Proof of Travel:

  • Confirmed return travel tickets (airline, ferry, or train) showing the applicant’s name and travel dates.
  • For travel within the Schengen area, additional travel documentation must be provided.
  • Booking fully refundable tickets is advisable.

Travel Health Insurance:

  • A valid policy in the applicant’s name with a minimum coverage of €30,000.
  • Must be valid for all Schengen member states and cover the entire duration of the intended stay.
  • (Note: EHIC or GHIC cards are not sufficient.)

Additional Documents (if applicable):

• For employees, self-employed freelancers, or service providers:

    • Pay slips for the last three months.
    • For service providers, additional documentation such as a contract for works or services and, if available, confirmation of pre-approval by the Federal Employment Agency.
    • For seconded staff, a signed Employer’s Declaration (with Annex B) and, if available, confirmation of pre-approval by the Federal Employment Agency.
